Discovering Poland

I'm Teresa, a teacher from Oakland, CA. In 2025, I decided to explore my Polish roots — and a Rick Steves tour was the perfect way to do this. Equipped with my passport, a 45L backpack, and a enthusiastic sense of adventure, I set out to a country I knew very little about, apart from kielbasa and vodka. Little did I know that surprises awaited, in the form of charming cities, tons of history, delicious food, and new friends!

Why Rick Steves Europe?

As a solo woman, I wanted to travel in a setting that felt safe. I also didn't want to have to go to the trouble of planning all the pieces of an international trip, like booking hotels, figuring out transportation, and making reservations for historical sites and tours. Rick Steves Europe does that all for you, while providing a group of like-minded people to travel with who quickly became like family.

The focus on history and the political climate of Central Europe was also a plus. I learned so much on this trip, thanks to the interesting, well-informed guides who didn't shy away from warning us about the dangers of fascism and dictatorship.

We went to cities and sites that I probably wouldn't have visited on my own — and I'm really glad we did. Click on the map of Poland for the complete itinerary, or click below for more information on all their tours.
